Instead we go the thickheaded bald pirate crony from the PotC movies

a few weeks ago you posted a series of gifs from What We Do in the Shadows. They made me interested in the film. I caught it today on HBO and quite enjoyed it. So just wanted to say thanks for exposing me to the movie
It’s a damn fine movie
reason: 3 characters, the only one I really think about is the obvious one: William T. Riker
fair enough. mind you he has more chest hair than I do. And I don’t do the chair thing although I will rest my butt wherever I can.

Star Trek: The Lost Era With the news that the new…
There was a book in the 90’s that I read called “The Lost Years” which dealt with what Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, which filled in the gap between the end of the Five Year Mission and the start of TMP. There ended up being 3 more books in the series, but I only ever read the first one. Might what to check them out. The 2nd book is called “A Flag of Stars” 3- “Traitor Winds” and 4-“Recovery”.
Yup read all of those too, I recall Flag being rather slow (well from a 12yo’s perspective anyway looks it’s been a while on that one), Recovery was decent.

OOC are you watching the theatrical or Rogue Cut?
Theatrical this week, Rogue next week (I have not seen the Rogue cut before so it’ll be an extra treat)
Season 1 of Legends will destroy Time LOL
That’s a little ambitious, they maybe should scale back like destroying the continental US, or roughing up the pleistocene epoch for protection money.
“It such a nice epoch, would be a shame if there were a few more asteroids were to hit Earth.”
I was just wondering where do/how do u pick your series project movies? You watch alot of movies I've never heard of before so I'm just curious
Threefold for the ones I haven’t seen:
1) Things I’ve heard of over the years in passing, like seeing a bit on a movie channel or something
2) Tumblr blogs like trash-fuckyou and moviesludge for example, have a seen a ton more than I have pick some of those. They’re awesome for the weird, z-grade and cult classics.
3) Plain research, wikipedia has a list of 80s science fiction movies, imdb recommendations, amazon recommendations. I have things on my amazon wish list that are 10 years old that I’m finally watching.
That’s not to say I haven’t spent my share of late nights watching bad movies in the past (when I had cable). I’ve watched terrible shit, and obscure shit.
I really like "The Chase". I fell like that story would have made for a good TNG movie if it had been expanded upon.
The Chase is great, it’s one of those classic throwing everything in the kitchen sink, shaky DNA, factions, blustering, archaeology. I think it’s basically a 90s TNG novel brought to life as there’s no lasting impact from it either. But yes had it had a chance to expand its canvass into a movie format it could have been greater, it has that grandioseness of TMP in potential
another blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance by Deanna. I always thought this was weird as you think with Scotty being a man out of time, Deanna would be counseling him. Turns out there was a scene that was deleted between Scotty and Deanna. It was on the Blu-Ray and IMO they should have left it in.
I think I knew that, thematically it makes sense. Trekcore has a breakdown of the scene.
Scene 20: Scotty feels sorry for himself because he doesn’t fit into the world of the 24th century. Troi tries to help, but only manages to make things worse.
After Scotty blows up at Geordi in Engineering, he receives a surprise visit from Counselor Troi, who mysteriously wants to know how he’s feeling. He admits that the experience of arriving in the 2360s has been “bewildering,” but declines Troi’s offer to assist with looking up the fates of his friends and family in the Federation historical database.
At this point, he stops the conversation and asks exactly what a “counselor” is. Troi reveals that the position began on Starfleet vessels “about forty years ago” – and Scotty suddenly realizes she’s a psychologist. “I may be old, but I’m not crazy!” he shouts, and storms out of his quarters, heading to Ten Forward for a drink.
Lost footage of James Doohan makes this the crown jewel of deleted scenes, and we’re so happy that it was able to be restored for this Blu-ray release. Ron Moore, the writer of this episode, had this to say when interviewed for the UK Star Trek Magazine in 1997:
“I hated to lose all that, but the show was eight minutes long and something had to go. It would have been nice to explain why she comes up and kissed him at the end!”
1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 11, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 22, 29, 31, 35, 36, 38, 55, 56
1. no surprise there, Empire Strikes Back. It’s the perfect sequel and casts a much wider net.
2. good question. The Prequels can be enjoyed on some levels but none really rise above. Even tho it’s filled with stupid moments I’ll say Reveng of the Sith. The inevitability of fate film.
3. 16
4. The Prequel Trilogy basically.
6. Not too much surprise there again it’s Han. It’s all a facade for him but he is a well worn nerd.

7. I liked Jango, a pragmatist who’s getting a shit-ton of money for his sperm basically.

I mean this is some It’s always sunny level kind of bullshit. Obi Wan and Qui Gon also run close.
11. I’ve literally only read 1 novel from the EU and it was the middle part of a trilogy (the one where they go after the missing Katana fleet) so I don’t have an opinion as of yet. I do have Outbound Flight but I haven’t read that yet.
13. Star Destroyer - from the original trilogy - mind you that needs a crew but I mean I love the imperial brutalism in the designs. The Venator class from the prequels and Clone Wars has grown on me of late (despite their propensity to blow up).

The Light Cruiser introduced in S2 of Clone Wars is also interesting.

I like all the fighters but if I’m going into space I need one that at least has a real bathroom and not tubes to dispose of my waste. But for an even smaller Ship, the Naboo’s ridiculously beautiful art deco aircraft-inspired ship glimpsed in Attack of the Clones

14. Are there any lazy Sith? Actually you know what that Librarian Jedi, gimme the archives.
17. I betcha those ET cloners from Attack of the Clones have not had a date in a long time.

Their long neck graceful…anyway No I kid uh it would have to be one one of the human-like species, but really in the movies we haven’t seen much of what differentiates the Corellians from Alderaanians or the ones from Coruscant. But give me someone from Coruscant I want to live on the city planet.
18. Maz Kanata probably has some secret stashes hidden I could be a well kept boy. I don’t know, someone in the Naboo royal line?
19. Padme durh.

22. I like that black light light saber from S2 of Clone wars, it has a defined edge. The grip would be a straight grip but maybe with finger recesses?
29. YEs. 100%. No doubt about it.
31. Mediclorians/Immaculate conception. Lucas tried so hard to pin down the force and throw in random junk to it. NOOOOOO uttered by Vader in Revenge of the Sith and Added to RotJ. Giant Snoke (and his name too).
35. Ohh good one, I like the Imperial Officer Uniform, the rigid lines.

I also Like Luke’s black suit from RotJ.

36. Rey’s desert garb, practical, scanvenger-y.
38. jfc no.
55. Make your own canon. I again only read one book from the EU, but to take the analogy from the ST Universe I can see how people were hurt. I’ve enjoyed DS9/TNG/Voyager’s post series offering (for the most part, TNG and VOyager’s had a rough start of it) and NuTrek put that to the sidelines. But at the same time it’s a little much to expect new casual viewers to get into all this established lore and basically retelling these stories that have been going on for 20 years. There’d be a lot of ground to cover, even if they picked up where the latest ones left off. Not that TFA is basically a rethread of ANH
56. Again, not enough EU under my belt (maybe one day but I’ve got so much reading to do). I know about Thrawn and maybe he can have his equivalent (Hux isn’t it so far).
