Days after United Airlines passenger David Dao was violently removed from an overbooked flight, his local newspaper, The Courier-Journal, published a report detailing the man’s completely unrelated, decades-old “troubled past” and printed photos of his home and office. And now other news outlets are following suit. 100% irrelevant, absolutely disgusting and unacceptable.

Chinese student starts #ChineseLivesMatter petition after United drags Asian man off plane

  • On Sunday night, viral video footage of a 69-year-old Chinese doctor being violently removed from an overbooked United Airlines flight after refusing to give up his seat ignited worldwide outrage.
  • The footage is gut-wrenching: Several officers forcefully pull him out of his seat.
  • His head hits a neighboring passenger’s armrest, and he is dragged down the aisle as blood pours from his face. The man’s screams can be heard in the smartphone footage. Zhang Zishi knew he had to do something when he came across the video.
  • So Zishi, an 18-year-old Chinese student in the United Kingdom, created a We The People petition demanding the federal government launch an investigation into the United Airlines incident that took place on Sunday night. Read more. (4/11/2017 3:10 PM)

Boycott United Airlines

vergak

They over book their own flight, asked for volunteers to leave, and when no one wanted to, assulted, bloodied and knocked out a 69 year old doctor and dragged him unconscious down the isle. Fucking despicable. He had to fly to see a patient. They did this so their own staff could sit instead of him. And I dont think its a coincidence he is asian, and not white.

boniverse

As Asian, I feel devastated, and am deeply concerned about this.

Here’s an account from the Guardian, usually a reliable news source, and one from the Washington Post (via the New Zealand Herald, because I’ve used up my WaPo articles for the month and the Herald has no paywall).  It looks as if first the cabin crew were high-handed and unpleasant about asking passengers to give up their seats for airline staff and then the police they called on board for assistance escalated to using force for no good reason.
