My mother is a die-hard conservative Republican. When I told her I had registered to vote, she rolled her eyes at me. When I asked why, she told me that “the worst thing for America is young, stupid liberals voting.” Liberals in the U.S. outnumber conservatives. The only reason Republicans win is because more of them vote. If you want us to win this upcoming election, get to the polls and vote, especially if you’re voting for Bernie Sanders in the primaries. Hillary has a lot more money and name recognition than Bernie does, so the primaries will be very important. Even if Bernie doesn’t win the primaries, Hillary being president will be a lot better than Donald Trump or Jeb Bush running this country further into the ground. Abstaining from voting in the general election because you don’t like Hillary will give the Republicans a victory on a silver platter and that is the worst thing that could happen right now.

OK Tumblr,

i see a lot of reblogs for Bernie here but we have to make sure we’re taking actions to ensure he has a fighting chance in this arena. His opponents have the money and the media circus backing them but he has us, so let’s run it!

The primaries are elections held months before the ACTUAL presidential election that basically decide who the main candidates for each party will be, specifically, who will be listed on the ballot in the election in november. if we want Bernie to stand a chance at all he MUST be on the ballot in November. For that to become a reality we need everyone reading this to get them and their friends to vote in the Primaries! I’ve used the site www.voteforbernie.com to list the following info below so you can all see it easily enough and share it with just a click. Check your state below for the appropriate information on when and how to vote in the primaries!

Below are the registration and voting dates for all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington DC (as a separate voting date). Be sure to register! Click your state to find out how! Below is a key to reading the following information!

Some states have open registration meaning it doesn’t matter which party you’re registered as, you can still vote for Bernie.

*** Some states are CLOSED meaning you MUST be registered as DEMOCRAT by the date’s i’ve listed to vote for Bernie.

*~* Some states are SEMI-CLOSED meaning you must be registed as DEMOCRAT or UNDECLARED to vote for Bernie.

# means you can register or switch parties the day of voting at the voting station.

REMINDER: About half of the states allow 17 year olds to vote in the primaries if they will be 18 years of age by the actual election. Check if your state let’s you do this and you can help if it is a state that allows this!

“What’s scary about Trump is you have a lot of people out there who feel certain ways and then you see somebody who’s running for president say these things. ‘Oh, Trump said that? I can say that! I can beat up the Muslim in my community. I can be a racist on a college campus.”

And it’s not just Trump. It’s all of them who are running for the Republican nomination. Trump just says it plainly and loudly and doesn’t use the coded language that the rest of them use.

And shout-out to @sanders4prez, @women4bernie2016 and the many other Bernie blogs for great content!

“There are countless blogs dedicated solely to Mr. Sanders’ campaign, such as ones called Bernie’s Revolution, Bernie Sanders 4 President and Women for Bernie Sanders. These blogs (and the many personal blogs that share Bernie content but aren’t solely dedicated to it) are basically extensions of his campaign trail.”

TIME Magazine recently announced their eight finalists for TIME’s Person of the Year. Bernie Sanders was not included in the shortlist even though he won the overwhelming majority in TIME’s reader poll. Pope Francis and Malala Yousafzai were also not included even though they came second and third in the poll. Donald Trump and Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, an ISIL leader, were included, however. As you can probably tell, I am quite upset with corporate media at the moment. #Timemagazine #BernieSanders #FeeltheBern  #DemocraticSocialism #RockTheVote

(As prepared for delivery on November 19th, 2015)

Mr. Speaker. 70 years ago my parents and grandparents were stripped of their possessions and placed in Japanese-American internment camps.

They were not guilty of espionage. They did not commit treason. They simply looked like our enemy — and that cost my family their freedom.

Yesterday, the mayor of Roanoke, Virginia, suggested that this country’s treatment of Japanese-Americans during the 1940s is a model for how we should address today’s global refugee crisis.

It does not take courage to condemn such disgraceful comments, nor does it take wisdom to say our World War Two policies were a product of fear and hysteria.

What takes wisdom is recognizing that history is now repeating itself. And what takes courage is sending a message to the world that America will protect innocent people regardless of their nationality or religion.

That’s what my mother and father deserved 70 years ago, and it’s what these refugees deserve today.

Thank you and I yield back.

liberalsarecool

Republican politics is a reduction of all reasoning and morality. Conservatives have a “how can I tell if they all look the same” racism and xenophobia. A Syrian refugee baby is treated the same as a radicalized ISIS mercenary. Distrust and paranoia are the basis for right wing rhetoric.

Went to a Star Wars pregame viewing party of Episode V, and found out the host (a gentleman my wife works with) was part of the production staff for both Battlestar Galactica and Stargate.

The kicker was that when I mentioned he had a lot of nice replica props from the shows, he simply shrugged and said “What replicas? These are all original” and then proceeded to pull out boxes and boxes of original props and material from the shows! There had to be over $100k worth of material coming from every corner of the place! Photos, props, articles he had written while a journalist for Fox productions… It was amazing!

And, as a party favor, I got one of the ballot props from Galactica!
