So the old French helmet was better even with whatever modern technology went into the contemporary American helmet?

Yes. So, there’s a lot of technology in the modern helmet, but that technology was not put in there with shockwaves in mind. So if you’re talking about any other kind of protection such as protection against different bullets, like rifle rounds or handgun rounds, or against any kind of blunt impact — a fall or a hit — the modern helmet is vastly better than any of the historical ones.

This won’t be WW3. This won’t be WW1 or WW2. This won’t be an alliance of countries coming together, a war of drafts and rationing. There will be no Rosie the Riveter and no victory meats. No war bonds and no D Day. There is no holocaust to end and no ally country to liberate.

This will be another Iraq and Afghanistan war. This will be another Gulf War. This will be American drones bombing the shit out of innocent civilians half a world away so often that it won’t even be reported on. This will be American snipers committing war crimes you won’t even hear about. This will military recruiters going to your high school, promising your friends free college that they could never afford otherwise, this will be your classmates dying in a desert on the other side of the world. This will towns bombed into rubble and another million Americans with PTSD to be abandoned by the VA. Hundreds of thousands of dead civilians and another 50,000 vets homeless on the streets when they get back.

For what? For oil. For power. To make the American voter forget about Impeachment as the 2020 election cycle kicks in.

Don’t let them do it.

Imperial Japanese Navy Capital Battleship Nagato [Admiral Yamamoto’s Flagship] Captured Flag

This Japanese Capital Flag was taken from the IJN Nagato by U.S.S. Horace A. Bass [APD-124] crew member Radio Operator 1st class Don Haney. RO1 Haney was a member of the prize boarding crew at Yokosuka Naval Base in Tokyo Bay. The U.S.S. Horace A. Bass furnished the Prize Crew to board and capture the battleship Nagato. There are only a few actual Capital Flags known to exist from World War II. This is a special flag denoting a Japanese Capital Military Asset. Its design is unique in that the rising sun is not offset to the mast as far as a regular Japanese naval ensign, nor centered as similarly-sized base flags were.

Devastating remix of Ellen’s lecture on befriending George W. Bush disappears after copyright takedown … then reappears in force

Rob Beschizza:

Ellen DeGeneres’s friendship with ex-President George W. Bush became controversial this week, in light of the progressive values she claims and the 600,000 corpses left by his occupation of Iraq. She delivered a monologue on her show in response, casting their friendship as an example of civility, overcoming political differences, and having “faith in America”. So Rafael Shimunov added a simple backdrop of Iraq war scenes to her monolog, in the hopes DeGeneres might better understand the complaints. In response, copyright takedown notices flew and it was removed from the ‘net, so it is at least getting under her skin.

Here’s a copy, which I’ll update if and when it disappears.

Not one word of hers is changed, and there are no misleading or misrepresentative edits to her performance. Only the backdrop is changed, so that it now shows scenes of abuse, atrocity and horror from her friend’s ruinous war instead of the blue studio wall.

The video is transformative and offers clear editorial comment, so its creator could certainly avail himself of a fair use defense in court. But social media is not the courts, and the companies running the platforms tend to side quickly with takedown requests and respond slowly to counterclaims.

The Streisand Effect, however, is something celebs and their agents can rarely control: countless social media users are reposting the remix in response to its disappearance, spreading it far wider than Shimunov could have ever hoped.

Thanks to Ellen DeGeneres’ chilling of my antiwar criticism by filing fraudulent copyright claims on my video with 10K views, people are reuploading all over Twitter for a now collective 300K (and growing) views faster than @andylassner can file false claims.
