A few panels from the UK Star Trek comic strips published in the 1960s and 70s, showing some of the weird, wonderful, and darn right beautiful artwork from the series.

It was hoped that following IDW’s publishing of the US newspaper comic strips over the last couple of years, they would continue the series with a couple of books collecting the UK strips.

Alas these books have yet to surface, and according to a recent blog by Star Trek comic collector Rich Handley (who worked on the newspaper strip reprint books) it seems IDW might not be going ahead. Rich has called for a campaign to alert IDW of the demand for these, including encouraging fans to write to IDW to let them know. I echo Rich’s request; these amazing and rare comics deserve to be seen by a wider audience. Come on IDW, make it happen!

“Despite how fancy the journal sounds, the International Journal of Advanced Computer Technology is actually an open-access publication that spams thousands of scientists every day with the offer of publishing their work - for a price, of course. Back in 2005, US computer scientists David Mazières and Eddie Kohler created this 10-page paper as a joke response they could send to annoying and unwanted conference invitations… The PDF went pretty viral in academic circles, and then recently an Australian scientist named Peter Vamplew sent it off to the pain-in-the-ass International Journal of Advanced Computer Technology in the hope that the editors would open it, read it and take him off their f*cking list. Instead, Scholarly Open Access reports that they took it as a real submission and said they’d publish it for $150. Apparently the journal even sent the paper to an anonymous reviewer who said it was ‘excellent’.”

I don’t think people give Flash enough credit.

He didn’t just rebuild an apartment building.

HE LEARNED HOW TO BUILD AN APARTMENT BUILDING. HE DID RESEARCH. IT TAKES SEVERAL YEARS TO LEARN ALL THE ENGINEERING AND LEGAL CONSTRAINTS OF BUILDING A BUILDING AND HE JUST DID IT.

This is one of my favorite flash comics. It really highlights how the flash doesn’t just run really fast, but can do absolutely astounding things. I remember reading this for the first time and having my head explode.

Flash rules.
