Borders didn’t go out of business because we don’t love books anymore.
Borders went out of business because they were expecting us to love books at the same percentage of income we loved them in the 1990s, and that wasn’t happening.
Borders didn’t die because books died. Borders died because we found cheaper books.

(As a former Borders Manager for over a decade) Borders died because they hired some really fucking stupid CEOs and upper management types in the last 6 years or so who made countless bad decisions. Stupid & needless expenditures, bad real estate deals, filling stores with gift type product that was over-priced and never sold, cutting payroll so much it hurt customer service and so very much more…
